The Project

The assignment, commissioned by the Municipality of Villafranca, encompassed both the preliminary and executive designs, as well as the supervision of the restoration works for the grand Scaliger monument. The interventions were carried out over two decades in successive phases. The following elements were restored sequentially: the central keep, the two corner towers, the two ravelins, the inner courtyard, and the small church. These restorations involved strictly conservative measures and the repair of gaps through integrations using traditional techniques. These methods ensured a uniform appearance while allowing the newly restored parts to be distinguishable from the original context. Inside the keep and the two towers, the various wooden floors were reconstructed in their original positions, as indicated by the presence of remnants of beams and supporting corbels.
